ACY1626 1/72 F2H-3/-4 Banshee

The F2H Banshee was developed from FH-1 Phantom, Navy's first jet powered fighter aircraft. Designed to meet Navy's needs for high speeds and increased rates of climb, the Banshee was powered by twin Westinghouse J34 engines mounted in expanded wing roots next to the fuselage to reduce drag, which provided twice the power of the J30 engines in the Phantom.

The Banshee was used as a fighter-bomber and reconnaisance aircraft in Korea and became Navy's standard carrier-based all-weather fighter for much of the 1950s.

The F2H-3/4 Banshee were among the first Navy aircraft to be launched from the USS Hancock(CV-19) during initial tests of the new steam catapult.
